A Simi Valley man who police say sexually assaulted a woman last weekend is to be arraigned today on rape and weapons charges.

Bobby Joe Hawk, 53, is accused of attacking a woman Sunday night in the 6400 block of Katherine Road, according to Simi Valley Police Sgt. Gary Collins.

The woman, whose name was withheld by authorities, did not require medical treatment. Following the incident, she called police and provided officers with a description of her attacker and his vehicle.

On Monday, Officer Butch Hale was patrolling Tapo Street near the Ronald Reagan Freeway about 9 p.m., when he spotted a car matching the suspect’s vehicle.

He pulled the car over and detained Hawk, who was alone at the time, until the woman could be brought to the scene. She identified Hawk as the man who assaulted her, Collins said.

While searching Hawk, officers found a loaded handgun, Collins said. He was booked into the East County Jail in Thousand Oaks and transferred to the County Jail in Ventura, where he was being held Tuesday on $50,000 bail.
