Nate Newton, the Dallas Cowboys’ all-pro offensive guard, was named in a sexual-assault complaint filed by a woman who said she was attacked at her home in a Dallas suburb in June, authorities said.

Newton has not been charged with any crime, and his attorney, Howard Shapiro of Plano, Texas, said his client had a relationship with the woman and that she later asked the attorney and the Cowboys for money to not report the alleged incident.

“Nate Newton denies that he sexually assaulted this lady,” Shapiro said.

The alleged victim, who is in her 30s, filed a police report July 8 after first trying to file a complaint with Dallas County prosecutors, Grand Prairie Deputy Chief Brad Geary said.

The woman said Newton, an acquaintance, came to her home about 1 a.m. on June 15 and sexually assaulted her, according to Geary.

A national voter-fraud organization is investigating the San Francisco 49ers’ narrow election victory that paves the way for a football stadium and shopping mall complex.

Voting Integrity Project said it plans to present its findings to prosecutors in the next few weeks.

The group, based in Chantilly, Va., has hired a retired FBI agent to look into a variety of charges that grew out of complaints by opponents of Propositions D and F. The measures passed June 3 with slightly more than 50% of the vote.

Proposition D provides for a $100-million lease-revenue bond as the city’s contribution to the proposed new $325-million stadium for the 49ers. Proposition F changes city laws to allow the stadium and adjacent $200-million mall to be built at Candlestick Point.

Opponents of the measures charged a variety of questionable practices, including alleged phony signatures for voters, vote buying and intimidation, and the late arrival of ballot boxes to the registrar’s office.

Because of concerns over the summer heat and the condition of dormitories, the 49ers may be leaving their practice facility in Rocklin, Calif. The team’s lease agreement with Sierra College, where the team has trained every summer since 1981, expires with the close of camp unless the team exercises its option for another year.
