Council Votes to Reduce Trash Collection Fees
Trash rates in the city are going down.
The City Council this week voted to cut fees for residential refuse collection from $11.79 to $11.28 per month. The $94.10 monthly fee charged to commercial properties using 3-cubic-yard trash bins will decrease to $91.48.
The new rates, effective Sept. 1, were made possible because the county reduced landfill dumping fees.
In a survey comparing the lowest trash rates for cities throughout Orange County, Buena Park now ranks sixth lowest for residential fees and 11th lowest for commercial fees.
In other action, the council waived a $450 business license fee for St. Pius Church to hold its three-day festival and carnival in late September.
In other city business, the council directed staff members to survey residents about a traffic signal on San Remo Way at Valley View and about a crosswalk at San Marino Drive at Crescent Avenue. City officials said they don’t know whether residents would favor taking down the signal and erasing the crosswalk or leaving them in place. Some say both are unnecessary.
The survey also will ask if residents favor building a road between San Marino Elementary School and San Marino Park.
