Liggett ‘Disclosure’ a Sad Commentary

‘Under Oath, Liggett Owner Says Cigarettes Are Addictive” (July 22) contained a passage regarding Bennett LeBow, saying he acknowledged the dangers of smoking as part of a legal settlement and said he was proud of Liggett’s history-making step.

I believe this to be a sad commentary--that the truth about these killers is made known through a court order and the executives of this company act as if they have made known, without influence, the hidden truths about cigarettes.

Liggett is receiving leniency with its legal entanglements in return for this truth that everyone knew about in the first place. How many other companies are producing things that are dangerous and will eventually kill thousands, but who will not tell it until forced by our legal system?
