The heat is on in the San Fernando Valley this week, with the mercury expected to hover in the upper 90s through Wednesday.

Hot temperatures and clear skies will prevail through midweek, said John Sherwin, a meteorologist with WeatherData Inc., which provides weather information to The Times.

Temperatures are expected to dip slightly on Thursday, as morning low clouds keep the sun at bay until late afternoon, Sherwin said.

High temperatures will likely range from the upper 80s into the low 90s on Thursday and Friday.

A large storm is circulating in the atmosphere above western British Columbia that will bring rain to the Pacific Northwest and Northern California, Sherwin said.

“But as far as Southern California is concerned, conditions will remain warm and dry.”

Monday’s forecast highs are 91 in Burbank, 97 in Van Nuys and 96 in Woodland Hills.
