Zeanah Supporters Form Committee

Supporters of embattled Councilwoman Elois Zeanah, who is facing a Nov. 4 recall election, announced Tuesday that they have formed a committee to defend Zeanah against opponents’ charges.

Zeanah’s chief political ally, Councilwoman Linda Parks, will manage the group, called Committee Against the Recall of Elois Zeanah, or CARE.

The group does not have much money, Parks said, compared with rival group Yes! Remove Elois Zeanah, which has spent more than $175,000 in its quest to oust the second-term councilwoman.

But it does have a lot of bodies, Parks said, and it plans to put them to use.

“People power is the best way, anyway,” Parks said. “People walking neighborhoods, making phone calls, that’s how we’re going to do it. We don’t have the big money, but do we have the popular support.”

The Committee Against the Recall of Elois Zeanah is not the only group planning to get its word out about the recall.

Yes! Remove Elois Zeanah is planning an informational campaign that will focus on Zeanah’s voting record and her deeds in office, according to Jill Lederer, the Domino’s Pizza chain owner who has bankrolled the brunt of the recall campaign.

“We have nothing specific planned, but we do want to educate voters and remove Elois’ personality and focus on the issues,” Lederer said. “We do want them to understand that this is about a series of things she has done in office, and the fact that we would be better served without her.”
