Lawmaker, Activist to Take Places on ‘Walk of Fame’
A ceremony will be held today for Assemblyman Carl Washington (D-Paramount) and community activist Barbara Butler, who will receive engraved heart-shaped markers on the “Promenade of Prominence Walk of Fame.”
“I feel extremely honored to have been selected to receive such a symbol of excellence and professional achievement,” said Washington, who will be on hand at the 10 a.m. ceremony near 103rd Street and Success Avenue.
Butler is known for working with prison inmates.
The promenade was founded in 1988 by Edna Aliewine, a community activist and Watts resident. “You have to be a star to be on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, so I said let us enshrine the people who do good work for the community,” said Aliewine.
