So Bob Toledo says, “Our goal is to have a winning season. That’s progress.” Toledo obviously learned well from his mentor, Terry Donahue. Set the bar as low as possible and act like one step above mediocrity is some sort of worthy achievement.

With programs such as Northwestern and Kansas State now regularly winning nine games a season, simply because they were intelligent enough to hire top coaches, it is astounding that the UCLA faithful continue to accept the Bruins’ third-class football status. Was it that long ago that Tommy Prothro took this program to four top-10 finishes in his first five years at Westwood?
