One man was killed and two people critically injured in a fiery crash on Pearblossom Highway in the Antelope Valley, authorities said Saturday.

The driver of a Jeep Cherokee was traveling westbound on the highway southeast of Palmdale at 10:50 p.m. Friday when he lost control of his vehicle, crossed into the eastbound lane and broadsided a van, said Officer Ken Lane, a California Highway Patrol spokesman. Both vehicles veered off the roadway and the Jeep caught fire, Lane said.

The Jeep’s driver was killed. Los Angeles County coroner’s office investigators had not identified him as of late Saturday.
