SchoolPower, a private fund-raising group for Laguna Beach schools, will donate $65,000 to the school district’s coffers, a spokesman for the organization said.
The money comes from the group’s fifth annual Golf and Gourmet Classic, held recently at the Coto de Caza Golf & Racquet Club. About 145 golfers paid a minimum of $250 each to play 18 holes of golf.
This year’s total was the most raised by a golf event, said Gary Monroe, the chairman of the fund-raiser.
SchoolPower was formed in 1981 and has contributed more than $3 million to the district. The group donated $481,789 during the last school year.
Monroe said the $65,000 has not been earmarked for a particular program. The school board will decide how the money will be spent, he said.
