Group to Unleash Patrols on Dog Beach

Residents and the city staff are forming a volunteer group to keep Dog Beach clean and educate users about the beach’s regulations.

Officials complained that dog owners have allowed their pets to roam freely and have not picked up after them.

Community Services Director Ron Hagan said the group would patrol the area and hand out fliers about the regulations. Volunteers will meet this month to discuss how to go about the project, he said.

“We have seen a significant decrease of dog waste since the issue came up,” Hagan said. “But we hope that through education, people will realize that they can keep Dog Beach by picking up or lose it by not.”

City officials also are considering establishing an annual permit, voluntary donations or a corporate sponsor for the beach, just south of Bolsa Chica State Beach.

Recommendations on the issue will be presented to the City Council in January.
