A 470-ton Metrolink train, smothered in 20,000 tiny lights and a flatbed car with Christmas characters, will chug its way through seven Orange County cities Dec. 13, picking up toys for needy children.
The train toy drive, sponsored by the California Department of Forestry and Metrolink, will help disadvantaged children in six Southern California counties.
It begins its 40-city journey today. Locally on Dec. 13, it will arrive at the San Clemente station at 5:50 p.m.; San Juan Capistrano, 6:10 p.m.; Irvine, 6:45 p.m.; Santa Ana, 7:15 p.m.; Orange, 7:35 p.m.; Anaheim, 7:55 p.m.; and Fullerton, 8:20 p.m. Each stop is about 15 minutes.
Cities are arranging Christmas music and other events to coincide with the train’s arrival. For information on donating toys, call (800) 371-LINK.
