ATM to Be Installed at Central Library

Out of cash to pay a library fine or buy a used book? No problem: An automated teller machine will be placed inside the Central Library just before Christmas.
The City Council this week approved a Library Services Department request for the ATM. Many library users suggested having a cash machine, said Jan Halverson, library services manager.
Downey Savings & Loan will install the machine near the library’s entrance. Officials estimate that at least 3,600 people will use the machine each year. The city will receive a 25-cent fee from each transaction. Council members in January will consider whether the proceeds should go to the general fund or the library services fund.
