New Mayor Vows to Combat Drug Abuse
Steve Dicterow, a lawyer who has been a member of the City Council for three years, was elected mayor this week.
Dicterow, 42, pledged to continue his efforts, which began this fall, to reduce drug and alcohol abuse in the city.
He wants to establish a teen-mentoring program and provide alternatives for youngsters who might be lured into substance abuse.
Dicterow also sponsored a measure passed by the council in September declaring the city a “drug-free zone.”
“It’s an issue that is closest to my heart and is nonpolitical,” he said.
Dicterow, 42, was elected unanimously by the four other members of the council. He will serve a one-year term.
