Angels Will Open at Home Against Yankees

Share

The Angels are scheduled to open the 1998 season against the New York Yankees at home March 31, the earliest opener in franchise history.

With the twin draws of a renovated stadium and the popular Yankees, the Angels hope to sell out opening day for the first time since moving to Anaheim Stadium in 1966.

The Angels estimate the downsized stadium will seat 45,050. They drew 29,017 for last season’s opener against the Boston Red Sox.

The Yankees are scheduled to play March 31 and April 2 in Anaheim, the Yankees confirmed Thursday. The Angels have not released their schedule, but the defending American League champion Cleveland Indians and then the Red Sox will follow the Yankees on the opening homestand.
