Even Rain Won’t Deter Delivery of Sandbags
Rain or shine, the Fire Department’s Community Emergency Response Team and volunteers will fill and deliver sandbags to disabled and elderly residents this weekend.
Team members will train 100 volunteers from Boy Scout troops, Marina High School Key Club, Huntington Beach High School football players and others on how to fill, deliver and set up the sandbags to protect homes from storm runoff.
Team member Gloria Morrison said the program aims to help about 55 elderly and handicapped residents.
The sandbagging effort will take place today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the city’s corporate yard, 17371 Gothard St.
Huntington Beach residents can get more information on getting sandbags by calling (714) 536-5223.
