Volunteers Offer Hand to Youth Club

The Boys & Girls Club of Simi Valley will be spruced up and decorated for the holidays by volunteers from GTE’s Project Reach Out.

On Thursday, more than 60 employees of the communications company will take up broom, paintbrush, hammer and glue to bring the year-old clubhouse at 2850 Lemon Drive up to sparkling condition.

“It’s an incredible help,” said Paula Mackelburg, assistant executive director of the Boys & Girls Club, which has a membership of 2,000. “We’ve been in this building a year now and it’s a great way to catch up on some of the things the facility needs, and do it at an incredibly low expense.”

Project Reach Out volunteers will be working throughout the building, putting together photo albums, fixing pingpong paddles, waxing air hockey tables and doing minor facility repairs, Mackelburg said.

And since this is the gift-giving season, GTE employees will also be wrapping Christmas gifts for club members.
