Police sought a suspect Tuesday in a shooting at a gas station that left a 50-year-old man dead.

Dong Dung Kwak, of Los Angeles, was shot in a robbery at Jin’s Shell station, 10332 Culver Blvd., said Lt. Ray Scheu of the Culver City Police Department.

Kwak went into the station, which is owned by his brother, about 10 p.m. Saturday. When he left the building, Scheu said, he was approached by a man carrying a large-caliber handgun and demanding money.

When Kwak said he had no money, the man shot him in the chest, Scheu said. Paramedics took Kwak to UCLA Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Witnesses described the suspect as a light-skinned Latino, 17 to 25 years old, wearing round wire-rimmed glasses and a dark watch cap, dark jacket and dark pants. The gunman was about 5 feet 6 inches tall, 140 to 160 pounds and clean-shaven. He escaped in a dark 1980s four-door sedan with tinted windows and white striping on the right side. The car was driven by an accomplice.

Scheu said anyone with information about the shooting should call (310) 253-6202.
