Fullerton’s Kim Advances in UCI’s Tennis Event
Kevin Kim of Fullerton advanced on the first day of the UC Irvine Men’s Masters tournament Tuesday when his opponent, Mexico’s Rogeliio Guerrero, retired while trailing, 3-1, in the first set.
Kim, who played tennis at Sunny Hills High for two years before leaving for the Palmer Tennis Academy in Tampa, is a sophomore at UCLA. He will face Armenia’s Tsolak Gevorkian today.
Steve Tallakson, who graduated from UCI in June, lost to Germany’s Alexander Popp, 7-6, 6-3.
The 64-man tournament includes players from more than 17 countries. Semifinals will be Friday and Saturday, with finals Sunday. It’s the final event in the USTA Segment 7 Satellite events.
