D.A. Asked to Review Campaign Donations

The city clerk has asked the Orange County district attorney’s office to examine possible campaign contribution violations regarding a City Council candidate.

City Clerk Janice C. Guy said she sent a letter to Dist. Atty. Michael R. Capizzi Thursday regarding Jose Solorio, who unsuccessfully ran for a council seat last year.

Solorio received three $1,000 donations from companies that appear to be owned by the same person, Michael F. Harrah, according to the letter. The companies are Caribou Industries, California Property Investments and Eastcom.

The contributions were all made in June, according to city records.

Because the three businesses may be affiliated, they could have exceeded the $1,000 contribution limit to Solorio’s campaign committee, Guy said.

Solorio said he had not had an opportunity to examine the allegations and declined to comment on them.

Harrah could not be reached for comment.
