Post Offices Extend Hours as Christmas Rush Begins

Share

With Christmas fast approaching, lines at local post offices are getting longer as residents mail cards and gifts to friends and loved ones.

December usually brings a 30% to 40% increase in mail for volume for the U.S. Postal Service, said Al Strawther, the officer in charge of Thousand Oaks’ post offices. And the real rush is just getting started.

“Things are picking up,” Strawther said Thursday. “It’s an all-day thing. . . . This weekend, they’ll be down to the 12 days.”

To speed things up, post offices across Ventura County are staying open from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. the next two Sundays. Those include two in Thousand Oaks, 3435 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd. and 235 N. Moorpark Road; 2551 N. Galena Ave. in Simi Valley; 41 S. Wake Forest Ave. in Ventura.; and 1961 North C St. in Oxnard. The Ojai post office at 201 E. Ojai Ave. will be open this Sunday, but not Dec. 21.
