For the 17th year, Ventura County sheriff’s deputies will become “Share-iffs” with their annual Christmas Food and Toy Drive on Saturday. The program provides food, clothing and toys to needy area families, officials said.
This year, 130 families, including 435 children, will benefit from the giveaway. Recipient families are recommended by the county’s Social Services Agency, Catholic Charities Program, Head Start of Oxnard, local schools and patrol deputies.
Sheriff’s Department employees and their families will give food, toys and clothing to 80 families during a Christmas party from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the lobby of the Sheriff’s Department, located at the Government Center at 800 S. Victoria Ave. Santa Claus is also planning an appearance.
Gift packages for the remaining 50 families will be distributed by van.
