Needy children from Los Angeles-area schools will be treated to a winter wonderland Saturday at Lake Balboa.
Santa Claus and his helpers will greet youngsters bused from various schools citywide in a special holiday-season activity called Santa on the Lake.
The children will receive gifts from Santa and will also be treated to pony and paddle-boat rides.
Imported snow will add to the holiday atmosphere in the fourth annual event, co-sponsored by radio station KRLA-AM (1110) and the city’s Department of Recreation and Parks.
“Last year, we had 2,000 kids and this year we’re shooting for 3,000,” said Steven Bustillos, recreation supervisor for the south Valley district.
Bustillos said individuals who donate wrapped gifts valued at $5 or more at the event will receive a KRLA T-shirt.
“Hopefully, it won’t rain,” he said. “Right now, that’s what we’re praying for.”
The event will take place from noon to 5 p.m.
Lake Balboa is at 6300 Balboa Blvd., near the corner of Balboa and Burbank boulevards.
