Apalachee Ridge, a 3-year-old Apalachee colt, broke the Hollywood Park record for six furlongs when he won the third race Friday night.
With Kent Desormeaux riding for trainer Doug Peterson and the Big Train Farm of actor John Forsythe, the 9-2 shot, who has won three of his eight races, won by five lengths over 9-5 choice Saylo in 1:07 2/5.
The previous mark of 1:07 4/5 was set by Forest Gazelle in the 1995 Los Angeles Handicap, also on a Friday night.
The race was marred by the death of Wrightwood, who fractured his left foreleg on the backstretch and had to be destroyed.
Owned by Bob and Beverly Lewis and trained by Wayne Lukas, the 3-year-old finished with two wins in 14 starts and earnings of $84,845.
