Supervisors to Vote on Airport Projects

A $21-million plan to improve Oxnard and Camarillo airports over the next five years will be considered today by the county Board of Supervisors.

The capital improvement plan must be updated annually to ensure the county-owned airports remain eligible for any federal grants that become available, officials said. Federal and state grants pay as much as 90% of project costs.

The board is expected to approve two grant applications today for projects in the plan slated for completion in 1998.

The first seeks $500,000 for drainage improvements, rehabilitation of an air-rescue firefighting vehicle and construction of a shelter for the vehicle at Oxnard Airport. The second is aimed at securing about $1 million for taxiway improvements at Camarillo Airport.
