HUNTINGTON BEACH — A 17-year-old Huntington Beach girl was killed and her two teenage companions were injured when they crashed while fleeing a home they had burglarized about 20 minutes earlier Monday, Huntington Beach police said.
About 5:40 p.m., Robert Holliman, 19, of Huntington Beach was driving on Edinger Avenue between Springdale and Edwards streets when he tried to pass another car on the right, police said. But he clipped the other car and lost control, driving onto the sidewalk and hitting a power pole, police said.
Holliman and a 17-year-old boy riding in the back seat were taken to Long Beach Memorial Medical Center. The girl, who had been riding in the front seat, was taken to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana, where she died, police said. Her name and the name of the 17-year-old boy were not available Monday night.
Holliman was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving, manslaughter and burglary, police said. The teenagers had just burglarized a home about three-quarters of a mile away, police said. Police said a chain saw that had been reported stolen from the house was found in the car.
