What: The SuperSite for Kids.

Where: https://www.bonus.com

Well, at least I was spared the indignity of losing to some 5-year-old from Fresno in net scooter over at the weekly game arcade.

For some reason, the server was down--problem connecting to server--which sounds more serious than it really is. So the next step was to play against the computer. After selecting the track, my engine stalled or maybe something was wrong with my computer.

So much for life in bonus.com, billed as the SuperSite for Kids. Games aside, the site had decent graphics and information in story form on several sports stars, among them Scottie Pippen, Sheryl Swoopes, John Elway and Troy Aikman.

Books were available for $14.95--seemed a bit expensive for a 40-page offering on Swoopes--but kids can read selected passages on the web.

Swoopes wrote about appearing at a basketball camp with Michael Jordan and asking him not to dunk on her.

“Michael answered slyly, ‘I’ve got to please my campers,’ ” Swoopes wrote.

She said she stopped him from dunking and wrote: “Oh my gosh, I just fouled Michael Jordan.”

Elway was amusing as he recalled his childhood, writing about joining his sisters at their tea parties.

“Hey, when you’re the only guy, you do what it takes to be included,” Elway wrote.

The web site has room for improvement, but look at it this way. It’s a lot less expensive than having to purchase Cuddly Talking Arthur ($29.99) or Sing & Snore Ernie ($30).
