Wisconsin Oshkosh Pounds Chapman

The Chapman women’s basketball team, which won its first five games, wanted a tough test but it got more than it could handle as Wisconsin Oshkosh dominated the Panthers, 81-46, Monday at Chapman.

Kelly Warnke had 23 points, making 10 of 12 shots from the field, to lead the Titans, who won the Division III national championship two seasons ago and were 54-4 over the previous two seasons.

Wisconsin Oshkosh was struggling a little coming into the game, shooting only 40% from the field. But Monday, the Titans (5-1) broke out of the slump and shot 57% from the field, including five of nine from three-point range.

Chapman (5-1), which shot 50% from the field in its first five games, shot only 24% from the field in the first half, falling behind, 41-20. Chapman finished 13 of 47 from the field (28%).

Lyndsay Brown had 16 points and Melissa Lopez added 11 for the Panthers, who committed a season-high 24 turnovers.

In another women’s basketball game:

Portland State 51, UC Irvine 43--The visiting Anteaters shot 27% (seven of 26) in the first half and couldn’t recover. Sabrina Roberson and Leticia Oseguera each scored 10 points for Irvine (3-3), which committed 29 turnovers.
