Laughter Expected to Boost Housing Agency

Share

Sometimes a good joke can provide a little more than laughter.

In the case of tonight’s comedy benefit, sponsors are hoping those jokes help provide toys and food to needy families throughout the San Fernando Valley and East Los Angeles.

The LA Family Housing Corp. is holding a night of comedy beginning at 8 at the LA Cabaret, 17271 Ventura Blvd. Admission is two or more cans of food or an unwrapped toy, plus a two-drink minimum.

Comedian Rick Overturn, an Emmy Award-winning writer for “The Dennis Miller Show,” comedy songwriter Henry Phillips and improv comedy teams will donate their talents to help some of the 9,000 homeless and low-income families whom LA Family Housing serves.

“During the holidays, our families lack the resources to provide their children with toys and other surprises,” said Nat Hutton, executive director of the agency.

The comedy night is just one of the many events the agency sponsors. On Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., LA Family Housing will host its annual Snow Day. Six tons of snow will fill the parking lot next to the Valley Shelter at 7843 Lankershim Blvd. in North Hollywood. Children will romp in the snow, get to meet Santa Claus and receive a toy, said Tracy Wallace, director of development for the agency.
