Media Anoints New Top Dog in Capital

The president’s new pet pooch has gotten more press attention in the last 12 days than almost anyone in Washington except his master and vice master. A computer count of stories in 37 major newspapers shows that the Labrador puppy President Clinton calls Buddy was mentioned in 240 newspaper stories, according to the Center for Media and Public Affairs, an outfit that monitors what the press covers. That’s fewer mentions than the 282 stories discussing Vice President Al Gore, but Gore had to go to Kyoto, Japan, to address a global warming conference to get his share.
