Michigan Can’t Keep It Going

From Associated Press

Just a few days after defeating the No. 1 team in the country, Michigan couldn’t take care of business in its backyard on Wednesday night.

Earl Boykins scored 29 points as Eastern Michigan upset the No. 21 Wolverines, 89-83, in overtime at Ann Arbor, Mich.

Though Eastern Michigan and Michigan are less than 10 miles apart, this was their first meeting in five seasons.

The Wolverines defeated then-No. 1 Duke last Saturday.

“The guys feel right now as bad as it gets,” said Michigan’s Robert Traylor.

James Head scored 20 points and Derrick Dial had 16 for the Eagles (3-3), who dropped Michigan to 0-2 against Mid-American Conference teams. The Wolverines opened the season with a loss to MAC member Western Michigan.

“This proves that on any given night, any MAC team can play with any Big Ten team,” said Boykins, Eastern Michigan’s 5-foot-5 point guard who also had five assists and three steals.

Louis Bullock had 24 points for Michigan (6-3), making seven of eight three-point shots. His three-point basket from the deep left corner with 1.4 seconds remaining sent the game into overtime for the Wolverines, who trailed by as many as 13 points in the second half.
