Council OKs Plan for 132 New Homes

A residential development to be built next to Alta Vista Country Club will have fewer houses and larger lots than first proposed, according to a plan approved this week by the City Council.

The council gave the developer the nod to build 132 homes on nearly 23 acres of vacant land. The original proposal had called for 173 houses.

With the revision, there would be about six houses on each acre, down from eight per acre in the original proposal. Also, the traffic circulation plan was changed, and street widths now are planned to accommodate parking on both sides.

Two developers are working on the project, to be built in two sections. In the northern parcel, HQT Development LLC of Irvine will build 70 two-story homes ranging in size from about 2,000 square feet to 2,400 square feet.

On the southern parcel, 62 homes are to be built by William Lyon Homes Inc. of Newport Beach. They will range in size from about 2,500 square feet to 2,900 square feet.

Construction is expected to start next summer.
