Charles ‘Skip’ Webster; Producer of ‘The Rookies’

Charles “Skip” Webster, 73, television story consultant and producer for such shows as “Fantasy Island” and “The Rookies.” A native of Detroit, Webster grew up in Los Angeles and attended East Los Angeles College. He started working as a janitor for a publisher of community newspapers, began writing and wound up as editor. Webster broke into television with a job at CBS publicizing the innovative dramatic series “Playhouse 90.” Over the years, he wrote scripts for such television series as “Matt Houston,” “Mod Squad,” “Charlie’s Angels,” “Barnaby Jones,” “Love, American Style,” “The Partridge Family,” “Wonder Woman” and “CHiPs.” He was executive story consultant for “Fantasy Island” and “The Brady Bunch,” and then producer of “The Rookies.” On Sunday in Ashland, Ore., of complications of asthma and diabetes.
