North Carolina Unanimous No. 1
North Carolina remained the No. 1 team in the Associated Press poll on Monday, and was a unanimous choice for the first time since 1986.
The Pacific 10 is represented by three teams--No. 5 Arizona, No. 8 Stanford and No. 9 UCLA--while Jim Harrick-coached Rhode Island moved back into the Top 25 at No. 22.
Ohio State freshman forward Jon Sanderson was placed on a five-year probation for kicking a University of Dayton police officer who stopped him for carrying an open container of beer after a party Aug. 25.
Ohio State Coach Jim O’Brien has said Sanderson would remain on the team. Sanderson had 15 points in Ohio State’s 79-73 victory over USC on Saturday.
Arthur “Yah” Davis, who as a freshman last season helped St. Joseph’s reach the NCAA tournament’s round of 16, was declared academically ineligible the rest of this season.
Davis, a guard who averaged 14.7 points and made a school-record 65 three-point baskets, failed to meet requirements needed to restore his eligibility.
