SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

One man was fighting for his life and another was being treated for serious injuries Sunday night after they were stabbed during a fight on Seaward Avenue near the beach, authorities said.

The melee occurred about 8 p.m. near Pierpont Boulevard and involved as many as five men, said Ventura Police Sgt. Bob Anderson.

Ventura police officers fanned out across the beach area looking for at least two suspects, Anderson said.

They also were trying to determine what the suspects used to stab the men.

“We do not know the type of weapon used,” Anderson said.

Witnesses said one of the injured men, identified as Jim Jensen of Ventura, was stabbed numerous times in the right thigh.

Jensen left a trail of about 40 bloody footsteps from where he stumbled onto the sidewalk in front of the Sea View Inn to where he finally collapsed, in the driveway of Sharky’s Bar, 1105 S. Seaward Ave.

“From the trail of blood, the stabbing or cutting took place in the middle of the street,” Anderson said.

The second victim, whose name was not released, lay nearby in the street with serious injuries, fire officials said.

Paramedics administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation as Jensen was being transported to Ventura County Medical Center. The unidentified victim was taken to Community Memorial Hospital, authorities said.

Gunner Wolf of Ventura, who said he has known Jensen for 15 years, came to the scene shortly after his friend collapsed.

He said he tried to comfort his friend. “He was trying to talk,” said Wolf. “But he couldn’t talk.”
