Woman Found Dead on Street Identified

Authorities have identified a woman found dead on a La Colonia street over the weekend as a mentally ill woman who had lost contact with her family and was under the county’s conservatorship.
Juliet Jonas, 29, is believed to have wandered away from the Parkwood Board and Care Home in south Oxnard on Saturday and had been dead for several hours when her body was discovered shortly before 6 a.m. Sunday on 2nd Street, officials said.
There were no signs of foul play, but the coroner’s office suspects that Jonas may have died of a drug overdose and is awaiting the results of toxicology tests.
Jonas had been under the county’s care for about two years, but officials could not discuss the case because of confidentiality requirements that remain in effect even after a person’s death.
Under the conservatorship, she was involuntarily confined to the facility, but allowed to come and go at will, said Mike Jacobsen, assistant public guardian.
