A Long Beach woman was recovering Wednesday from several scrapes she received after jumping out of her car at 50 mph to escape an alleged kidnapper.

Police say the 46-year-old woman, whose name was not released, was approached at her Naples Island home Tuesday morning by unemployed Long Beach photographer Elton Anthony Forma. He allegedly forced her into her Range Rover at gunpoint and drove away with the intention of holding her for ransom, Cpl. Harry Erickson said.

Erickson said the woman was able to jump clear of the vehicle on the San Diego Freeway in Irvine, where another driver picked her up and took her to a Newport Beach hospital. She was treated overnight and released.

Erickson said Forma abandoned the vehicle in Irvine and took a taxi to his Long Beach home. Forma allegedly refused to pay the driver, and a group of onlookers tried to detain him. Police were called after Forma allegedly waved a pistol.

He was charged with kidnapping for ransom, carjacking, exhibiting a firearm in a threatening manner and defrauding the cabdriver.
