The papers were signed and delivered, the site was set and the official countdown began in earnest.

Mike Tyson’s boxing future will be determined Wednesday, in Las Vegas City Council chambers, at a formal disciplinary hearing before the five-member Nevada State Athletic Commission.

The commission, after some anxious hours while the Tyson papers were delayed, Wednesday afternoon received Tyson’s signature on a form that waived his right to delay the formal hearing at least 30 days.

Tyson’s attorney, Eckley “Marty” Keach, had assured the commission at a preliminary hearing Tuesday that Tyson would sign the waiver as quickly as possible.

Keach also has said that Tyson will not contest the commission’s complaint--that Tyson twice bit Evander Holyfield on the ears during their World Boxing Assn. heavyweight title fight Saturday night at the MGM Grand.

On Tuesday, the commission delivered both the formal complaint--which seeks revocation ofTyson’s license to box in the state--and the unsigned waiver form to Tyson through Keach.

“[The signed waiver not arriving by Wednesday] would have been a bad sign, because then maybe everything they said would be in question,” said Marc Ratner, executive director of the commission.

“But we got it, I’m looking at it right now. So, there’s no problems, and we’re moving forward. This gets it going.”
