An Oxnard police officer was slightly injured Sunday night when his car was rear-ended by a suspected drunk driver.
Officer Robert Cobos was treated for unspecified injuries at St. Johns Regional Medical Center in Oxnard after his patrol car was hit from behind by a car driven by Salomon Valmaceda, 44, of Carpinteria, an Oxnard police spokesman said.
Cobos’ marked patrol car was stopped at a red light on Oxnard Boulevard about 10:40 p.m., the police spokesman said. When the light turned green, he was hit from behind by Valmaceda, the spokesman said.
After the accident, Valmaceda was given a series of sobriety tests by officers at the scene and was arrested for suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol and causing an injury, the spokesman said.
Cobos and Valmaceda’s passenger, Benave Soliano, were both taken to St. John’s Regional Medical Center, where they were treated and released.
