Council to Consider Goals for Fiscal Year

Attracting businesses to downtown and extending the hours of the Police Resource Center are among the goals the Moorpark City Council will consider at a Wednesday meeting.

Each year, city staff members lay out what they want to accomplish during the new fiscal year, which began July 1.

Overall goals include encouraging community involvement in local government and keeping youths out of trouble.

Department heads make recommendations to the City Council on how to meet the goals, and council members decide which goals to add, delete or delay until the next year, said Steve Hayes, Moorpark’s manager of economic development and redevelopment.

“What we want to do is make sure we are on base with the council on what they want to do for the fiscal year,” Hayes said.

One of the major goals of the Redevelopment Agency is to help businesses locate to High Street, between Moorpark Avenue and Spring Street. One of the ways the city does that is to offer low-interest loans.

Of the $250,000 set aside for the business loan program, about $25,000 has already been used, Hayes said.

Other goals the council will consider include:

* Establishing a skateboard facility at Arroyo Vista Community Park.

* Studying the feasibility of a truck stop in Moorpark.

* Providing city information on the Internet.

The meeting starts at 7 p.m. in the Moorpark Community Center, 799 Moorpark Ave.
