Police Investigating Burglary / Hate Crime
Los Angeles police are investigating what they call a burglary / hate crime that occurred on the Fourth of July.
Burglars broke into a home in the 16000 block of Gilmore Street at about 10 p.m., stole $50,000 worth of items and left swastikas on the walls and kitchen cabinets.
Sgt. Kristie Romero said police reports indicate the occupants of the house are white, but authorities did not know the religion of the victims or a motive for the crime.
The burglars also caused about $4,000 in damage by spray-painting epithets and swastikas inside the home, police said.
“Occasionally, we’ll have a hate crime, but they are rare in conjunction with another crime,” Lt. Richard Blankenship said. “Usually burglars want to get in and get out as quickly as possible.”
Police have no suspects.
