Mother, 3 Children Unhurt as Large Tree Falls on Car

A woman and her three children narrowly escaped injury Monday when a large pine tree crashed onto their car as they drove down a street in the Crenshaw district, authorities said.

The trunk of the 100-foot-tall tree barely missed the top of the car, which was hit by some of the larger limbs. The tree at 11th Avenue near 50th Street, which was estimated to be more than 60 years old, had apparently rotted at its base, firefighters said.

“The car was damaged on all sides, but not on the inside,” said Los Angeles Fire Department Capt. Robert Brooks of Fire Station 94. “They were lucky.”
