Traffic Officers Help Woman Give Birth

Share

Los Angeles Police Department Traffic Officers Justin Stewart and Eddie Martinez were cruising near the Coliseum early Tuesday looking for accidents or speeders to cite.

Instead they delivered a baby.

The officers were driving down Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard near Budlong Avenue shortly after 1 a.m. when a blaring horn from a parked car caught their attention. A man emerged from the car frantically waving at them. The officers stopped to see his wife, Daisey Hernandez, in the front seat about to give birth.

“We called for an ambulance, but we could already see the head of the baby,” Martinez said. So while he tried to keep the 25-year-old mother calm, Stewart helped guide the baby boy into the world.
