Women’s Activist to Head Paula Jones Defense Fund

Paula Corbin Jones, in her first public appearance since a U.S. Supreme Court ruling allowed her sexual harassment lawsuit against President Clinton to move forward, announced Wednesday that San Marino activist Susan Carpenter-McMillan will serve as her new spokeswoman and head of her legal defense fund.

“I am not going to say anything today, but I want to introduce you to my really wonderful friend Susan,” Jones said.

Citing her attorney’s advice, Jones refused to comment further on the lawsuit, which charges that Clinton, then governor of Arkansas, propositioned her six years ago in a Little Rock hotel room. Clinton has denied the charges.

Carpenter-McMillan, president of the conservative Women’s Coalition, said she and Jones have become close friends since Jones filed her lawsuit in 1994. Her organization was one of the first to support Jones’ allegations.

Carpenter-McMillan said the Paula Jones Legal Defense Fund would relocate from Washington to Los Angeles. She said she and Jones have not discussed details of the lawsuit.
