Boy, 8, Dies After Being Found Unconscious in Apartment Pool
An 8-year-old Anaheim boy died Thursday morning after he was found unconscious in an apartment-complex pool, but authorities don’t know how long he had been in the water or how he got into the gated pool.
Chi Tak Fung was found about 7 a.m., dressed only in his underwear, according to paramedic Matt Verga of the Garden Grove Fire Department. The boy’s father, whose name was not available Thursday, reportedly spotted the body while looking for the child at the complex on Larson Avenue.
“The circumstances are somewhat mysterious,” Verga said. “Nobody knows how long he was in the pool or when he was last seen. The apartment manager said the gate for the pool was locked too.”
A police officer tried lifesaving techniques on the boy, who was in full cardiac arrest and turning blue, Verga said. The boy was rushed to a nearby hospital but could not be revived.
The boy’s father does not speak English, and emergency workers at the scene had difficulty learning what had happened, Verga said.
