Man Treated for Minor Injuries After Vehicle Rolls Over on Freeway

A Murrieta man was treated for minor injuries Sunday night after his family’s sport utility vehicle rolled over on the Ventura Freeway near Victoria Avenue and ended up on the frontage road, authorities said.

The 6 p.m. accident tied up the already slow southbound freeway as drivers tried to catch a glimpse of the damaged four-door Chevrolet and its four occupants--two adults and two children.

California Highway Patrol Officer Mark Flores said the vehicle was traveling south on the freeway when, for an unknown reason, it rolled, crashed through a fence and came to rest on Valentine Road in front of Ivy Lawn Memorial Park.

The driver, Jeffrey A. Chaney, was taken by ambulance to a local hospital with minor injuries, Flores said. Chaney’s wife and their two children were not injured.

Flores said the accident is still under investigation.

Valentine Road was closed in both directions for a short time, and traffic on the southbound Ventura Freeway was backed up more than three miles, to Seaward Avenue.
