A machete-armed father who dared police to “come and get me” was arrested Tuesday after a six-hour standoff with the Los Angeles police SWAT squad while he held his wife and three children hostage, police said.

Robert Acedo, 40, was arrested for child endangerment, said LAPD Officer Jason Lee.

There were no injuries.

The incident began about 1 p.m. at a residence in the 8800 block of Independence Avenue when Acedo’s wife called police to report a “confrontation” with Acedo, authorities said. The line suddenly went dead.

When the operator called back, Acedo answered the phone and yelled, “If you want me, come and get me,” Lee said.

Patrol officers tried to talk to Acedo several times before SWAT team negotiators moved in, Lee said.

Acedo was finally shot with a nonlethal beanbag just after 7 p.m. when he came out to retrieve a pack of cigarettes he had requested, Lee said. He was arrested without further incident.

The children--girls, 2 and 4, and a boy, 5--were placed with child protective services. The mother was not arrested.

Police had gone to the same residence Monday night on a domestic violence call, according to Lee. Acedo was gone that time, but a report was filed.
