Large-Vehicle Storage Rules on Agenda

Share

A proposal to restrict the storage of boats, trailers and recreational vehicles in front yards to a maximum of 72 hours a month is on the City Council’s agenda for Tuesday.

Under the plan, vehicles would have to be stored in an authorized location, such as a garage, rear yard or storage facility, after the 72 hours were up. Homeowners with large lots would be allowed to store vehicles in rear or side yards.

The city now allows temporary storage of boats, trailers, buses, trucks and RVs in front yards and driveways for up to 72 consecutive hours, or three days.

The intent is to give residents time to clean, inspect and prepare their equipment before and after a trip, City Manager Fred W. Maley said.

But Maley said there have been incidents in which residents circumvent the city code by moving their vehicles every 72 hours.

Maley said the amended ordinance would clarify that the front yard is not the proper place to store a boat or RV long term.

The council also will consider approval of the city’s investment policy, in which no changes are recommended. The council revised the policy last year, diversifying the city’s investments and limiting the amount of money in any one investment or institution, Maley said.

Also Tuesday, Maley will give a status report on the Civic Center addition and remodeling, which are almost completed.

The council will meet at 7:30 p.m. in chambers, 17855 Santiago Blvd.
