A 44-year-old Tustin woman was in jail Sunday, charged with the attempted murder of her mother, police said.

Helen Ben-Josef, 82, was in critical condition Sunday at Western Medical Center-Santa Ana after two shots to the abdomen with a 9-millimeter pistol, said Tustin Police Investigator Tom Tarpley.

“The motive [for the shooting] is still under investigation at this point,” Tarpley said, adding that there might have been “some sort of disagreement over financial matters” between the mother and daughter.

Police were called shortly before 7 p.m. Saturday to the townhouse the women shared in the 2700 block of Monza. Officers found the victim in the bedroom.

Emmanuelle Ben-Josef was being held in Orange County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bond, Tarpley said.
