The nation’s premier showcase for collegiate talent in the dramatic arts will take the stage next season at Chapman University.

Chapman’s theater and dance department will host the Western region finals of the 30th annual Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival. They will be at the Waltmar Theatre Feb. 5-9.

“We’ll have seven or eight major productions, chosen from about 200 shows,” department chairman Thomas F. Bradac said Wednesday. “We’re delighted. It will enrich cultural life on campus and in the community.”

Winners of regional finals across the country will go on to Washington for performances at the Kennedy Center, where national winners are chosen. Besides best overall production, categories include acting, designing and writing.

Funding for the annual festival comes from festival members and the Kennedy Center, Bradac said. The Western region comprises California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona and Hawaii. For information, (714) 744-7016.
